In a land without magic, where the king rules with an iron hand, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the king, but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she is released from prison to serve as the king's champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien.
The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass--and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena's fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival, and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

I have a lot of thoughts on this book. Not all of them are positive.
I overall really enjoy the story writing. I thought it was very nicely done, it was smooth. Everything floated into each other.
But the writing style threw me off. Maybe I just started with very high expectations. I felt a lot of times the dialogue was being choppy. It was very hard for me to get through the first half of the book, not because I didn’t like it but I would force myself to read. Once I got to like page 200 I flew through the second half.
The characters had a young mindset but what’s up with all the blushing? An assassin and the Captain of the Guard, it didn’t feel right.
But I really liked Celaena. I found her very annoying at first, but she turned out very intelligent and fierce although I expected to see a lot more fighting.
The world building. Oh my god.
It was freaking amazing. The religious system and the magic aspect weren’t necessarily explained. They were just thrown in there all blurry but I hope they are developed in the next book.
I felt the ending was very convenient. I expected it to be a little bit more cliffhangerish. But now I don’t have to read the next book right away.
I recommend it. It overall was pretty entertaining and nice once you got into the story.
Overall feelings:
